Desire
Desire was a reaction to the treelessness of my Brooklyn neighborhood. I missed feeling, in my ear, a soft breeze rustling through leaves. With over 2000 paper leaves suspended from the ceiling, these five “trees” provide a whispering refuge much like the riverside woods of my youth. The sound of the wind in a gallery through the leaves creates an illusion, maybe even a temptation of escape. Each sculpture has dozens of columns, suspended from a grid on the ceiling with invisible monofilament. The leaves, cut out of three different colors of paper (dark blue woven with glitter, light green iridescent and dark green matte), represented five different trees of historical, cultural and religious significance.
